I’ve been wanting to write down on my year review what to achieve this year progressing from last year’s Development Plan. I’ll dig the plan later. Just want to declutter what I have been bottling in my head. This year started quite mellow, didn’t really remember what happened. Then, things became interesting mid-year and spiralled into full-on choo choo train mode August onwards. It’s now October almost end of the year – I felt optimistic earlier months but now I feel like things are stagnant and crumbling apart or it might be a sign of redirection that I need to assess what I really wanted to focus on coming next year to progress.
Major things that have happened:
- Kicked of second Open Week event for AthenaFit Club
- Had New Year get together both in January
- Enrolled Hafazan class in February
- CrossFit Open 3rd Year and ranked 10th Malaysian women 40-44 category out of 56 participants – unlocked chest-to-bar pull-ups
- My DBA convocation in May
- Published an article for conference – awarded Best Paper and Best Presenter for the conference and got accepted into a journal publication
- Trained and brought the members I teach to compete in Redline 2026 in July
- Operational changes in July-August due to instructor’s shortage – covering so many classes looked like it would never end but I am fortunate to have been recommended 2 great instructors to join the team. Finally half-settled in September
- Applied for lecturer job – got shortlisted for interview 22 September
- My dearest grandma passed away 22 September
- I’m out to date again (yes, this is news – I still have faith that the love of my life is out there)
- Was invited to chair a virtual conference session (doctoral capacity)
- Many PT projects this year and I am enjoying it as far
- Certified for both Pilates and HYROX Foundation as trainer
- Training a prospect to become a BODYPUMP instructor
What’s coming up:
- Butterfly Effect competition in November
- BODYPUMP Advanced instructor training in November
- HYROX Kuala Lumpur in December
- HYROX Nagoya 2027 on the list
What an eventful year so far. What I am not happy about is I spent so much time teaching group classes that I spent less for training. Ideally, I would like to convert the teaching hours to more PT jobs and training; or other high-value stuffs like developing solutions and really moving towards my role as a consultant. My concentration and energy deviated a bit as I am dealing with many people with all different kinds of issues. As a trainer, again I have reflected and reminded myself again to protect my peace and don’t get attached with my clients. I do my best from my end to help them and that is just it. Even if their attitude sucked, it is none of my business and not mine to fix.
Come to think of it again, I am way better off now than I was 2 years back. I get the job that I prayed for and become good at what I do. I am grateful for that and the trust that my clients had put forth in me. What I feel now is not feeling of ungratefulness, it’s stagnancy and this feeling triggers my anxiety telling myself I gotta do more. I have grown a lot in terms of fitness – I know how to pace myself when to recover, when to push with teaching extra classes and when to train. My nutritions, though they’re not on point, they’re decent and I rarely feel the symptoms of malnourish. Again, a lot of anxiety from uncertainties of the future. I feel like I am a bit stable now I just need to detach from outcomes and keep on firm boundaries to protect my energy and focus.
Moving on from now, my focus would be on how do I move from a doctorate graduate to a paid consultant. I would like to keep writing, researching and share knowledge. Offering workable solutions that help people and also one that can sustain me financially. How do I start working on building the report I promised agencies on my findings. It feels more like a wishful thinking now. I wish I have someone who can show me the way. Till then, I have got to just do – trial and error till I make it.
Am I still aligned with my 2025-2028 development plan? Yes, I am. 2 more months to focus and keep myself back on track – don’t get too carried away with unnecessary things – like HYROX is totally unnecessary to do more than once; getting caught in people’s drama and insecurity – totally none of my business. But yeah, I’ll just do these two then focus on CrossFit and training people. I spent so much time for education and up-skilling as well. This one is mentally draining but necessary. Then I need to focus more on the self-care part for my wellbeing – preliminary work to share my research, my financial plan and deal with the pending tasks that I promised people to do. What a year! Brace for another 2 months – I hope things will not turn out worse than it is right now. Hopeful!
